Our Mission

Moving Beyond’s mission is to provide accessible yoga and meditation classes to all interested individuals. Our goal is to increase awareness of holistic self-care practices through the practice of yoga and meditation. As a result, individuals will understand how yoga and meditation can help them move beyond their current state and improve quality of life, reduce stress, and promote healing.

Our Story

Moving Beyond is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, MN. The organization was founded in August of 2018. The founder of Moving Beyond recognized a need for community-centered holistic wellness that was affordable for everyone. Our yoga and meditation classes are 100% donation based.

Kim Schuster, Founder and Volunteer Studio Manager/Instructor

Kim has been practicing yoga for 19 years and meditation for 11 years. She attributes yoga and meditation with helping her body heal after being hospitalized for blood clots in her lungs in 2004, and again in 2010 after sustaining a spinal injury from a car accident. Besides the physical healing she has experienced, Kim believes yoga and meditation have also supported her personal and professional growth by improving her self-awareness, resilience to stress, and connection to self. Her goal is to inspire others to create their own self-care practices. In 2018, Kim took her first yoga teacher certification class from YogaFit Training Systems Worldwide Inc. She earned her 200-hour Teacher Certification in October 2020 and is working towards her 500-hour Teacher Certification. Kim has been leading guided meditation classes since 2010 and completed training as a Guided Imagery Therapist in 2018. When she is not volunteering at Moving Beyond she provides personal yoga and meditation sessions at Karma Kim Yoga and also works as a consultant in the healthcare industry.

Shannon Banishoraka, Volunteer Instructor

Shannon began practicing Yoga in 2013 while caring for a gentleman in hospice care. He had taught yoga for 40 years and enjoyed guiding her through a yoga practice from his bed. His years of devoted yoga practice seemed to slow the rate of his terminal illness progression and she observed how even the simplest chair yoga or arm movements while bedridden improved his quality of life. The experience inspired her to obtain her yoga teacher certification, so she could offer individuals tools and postures that are accessible for a variety of circumstances and abilities. Shannon received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from the St. Paul Paul Yoga Center in 2020 with Maria Toso. She also worked at Present Moment Herbs and Books for 6 years before opening up her own yoga and herbal consultation studio in Uptown Minneapolis, B Herbal Apothecary. When she is not doing yoga she can be found studying herbal medicine, creating an herbal infused oil with her daughter, or taking a weekend trip to Wisconsin with her family.

Hello Beautiful Souls,

I have been practicing yoga since January 2020.  The following year I started the journey to become a certified Yoga teacher (200 YTT) in May of 2021 with LifePower Yoga. It changed my life and perception of becoming a better human being towards myself and others. I am passionate about sharing the practice with the community because it has supported my physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellness.

I have led a very independent life and encountered other individuals who molded me into something that I thought I needed to be to survive in this world. No matter how hard I tried to fit in, I felt as if I never belonged. I had become conditioned to look for external validation. However, I learned that finding acceptance and love externally was not the path for me. Through yoga, I have learned to look internally to find the guidance and truth to be free from self-imposed restrictions. Letting go and embracing my own light as my true self is my current path. I’m a true believer in giving and helping others. When I found Yoga I learned to find my own voice and to embrace self-love so that I can share love and kindness with others.

Becoming a yoga instructor and adding yoga into my daily life practice has benefited me by expandIng my self-development of growth and self-awareness. My mission as a yoga teacher has been to spread the benefits of yoga to as many people as possible. To share the practice and help others find ways of healing from mental, emotional, and physical trauma. Yoga is for everyone: all body types and abilities, all predispositions and ages. I believe it will improve your quality of life, be it on a physical or mental level. I am a warrior at heart and I hope I can help you find your personal yoga path as we embark on this journey together. I'm also a certified massage therapist and reiki practitioner. Love and Light, always, beautiful souls.

Namaste, Jodi
